Hi All, I searched the newsgroup but did not find any posts regarding weahter or not you can use Idexing with MSDE2000 like you can with the full blown SQL server version ? Reg, Jhi Reg, if you mean Full Text, then no, MSDE does not support it Johan, While Andrea is correct and assuming you are referring to Full-text Search (FTS) for MSDE 2000 or the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Edition (see SQL 2000 BOL title "Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2000" for more info). However, there are non-MSSearch solutions to achieving the same results, e.g.., FTS without the MSSearch service and without using the T-SQL LIKE command that is appropriate for MSDE as well as the new SQL Server 2005 Express that is the Yukon replacement for MSDE 2000. Why SQL Server Agent (MSDE2000) not started on Win98?hi Viktor SQL Server Agent, as SQL Server, are not executed as services on Win9x boxes but as standard applications, as Win9x does not support services . for SQL Server there's the option, using the SQL Server Service Manager to autostart it at OS startup, but there's not that feature for SQL Server Agent you can perhaps write a little vbscript, using SQLDMO object model, to make it start, and place a shortcut to that script in the startup folder
I'm testing the installation procedure before installing in the production environment. If I install simply by double-clicking setup.exe, it installs fine, although I had to add sapwd switch to setup.ini. (There are no other settings in setup.ini.) But I want a named instance, so I uninstalled that one and tried to reinstall using a batch file and settings file. When I tried that, it refuses to install, and instead displays the following message: ============== Windows XP Setup Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure system components. ============== A particularly unhelpful error message! This is MSDE2000 Release A. WinXP Pro SP2. Batch file: setup.exe /settings=settings.ini settings.ini: [Options] instancename= sapwd=
able to change/add sa password successfully. But, when I am trying to msde2000 on another computer, it gives me same error as: A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for more details. Set up will exit now. At this point I have sa passord already setup. Do you know what is causing this error and any suggestion? Thank you. Shailesh Patelhi Shailesh, you always have to provide a strong SAPWD parameter for each MSDE installation it is not domain specific nor computer specific it's instance specific so your password you provided for the very first installation is not known (and unavailable) for the other instance you are installing on the remote computer..Andrea, That's correct. But, How can
connection string, with the instance name, will be necessary? (At least on my system - it's not needed "at work", where all is SQL2000/MSDE2000). Thanks for your help, so far! Balbooshi Balboos, MSDE installs by default on WinNT platform granting only WindowsNT authenticated connections the error you (probably) get is "Login failed for user 'xxx'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. if this is the case, you have to hack the windows registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\InstanceName\MSSQLServer LoginMode = 2 which enables both WindowsNT (trusted) and SQL Server authenticated connections to allow this setting at install time, you have to sepcify SECURITYMODE=SQL command line parameter
Hi guys, I have error when installing the MSDE 2000 rel. A on a WinXP professional edition no matter using the command line or the .ini file to set up. I am having a problem installing MSDE on a NT 4 SP6 workstation. The first time I tried this it installed fine. As I was testing an installation CD wanted to retest. I uninstalled it from Remove Programs and tried to re- install it. At this point it complained that it could not register 3 dlls (dtspkg, sqldmo). I rebooted the system but on the restart it complained about various ADO DLLs. Several attempts have been made at removing MSDE and bringing the machine up cleanly. This has been successful but not been able to successfully re-install MSDE. Is there a way to ensure MSDE completely uninstalled from NT? Or is there a clean-up utility?hi, I succesfully uninstalled some MSDE instance using http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q290991 advices just a note

I'm trying to upgrade my installation of MSDE 2000 to SP4. The progress bar gets about 95% done, and then rolls back without comleting the upgrade. Any ideas on what's going on?hi, you have to enable verbose logging of the installation process providing the /L*v "c:\MsdeLog.txt" parameter to the setup.exe boostrap installer.. this will result in an about 2mb text file (for a complete succesfull installation), you can inspect for RETURN VALUE 3 entries in case of problems about 10 lines before each entry some (sometime cryptic) description of the problem will be reported..Thank you. I had the SQL Server Agent logging on as the Adminstrator. When I changed it to System, the upgrade worked.
Im using MSDE2000 on win2003 server, 2 CPU, 1GB ram. Is there any point to upgrade to sql express 2005? sql expr. supports only one CPU, is this a big tifference? MeelisSQLExpress doesn't have the workload governor and has a max DB size of 4GB instead of 2GB under MSDE. Guess it all depends on what limits you are coming up against. If you aren't there on any of these, likely just leave things alone for right now. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. -Andrew
Hi everybody this is my problem: I've just installed MSDE2000 on my machine an it all works fine. I'm able to create tables, storedprocedures whithin an access project, but i cant' connect any client, i tried to use the ip address and also the computer name but it doesnt' connect. I'm create backup job. I used code in a vb6 application to attach a database to MSDE, but I get an error that says "Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection." What does that mean? My code looks like this: Private Sub Command1_Click() Dim oSvroot As SQLDMO.SQLServer Set oSvroot = New SQLDMO.SQLServer oSvroot.Connect "(local)", "sa", "password" oSvroot.AttachDB "Sales", "C:\DB\Sales.mdf, C:\DB\Sales.ldf" oSvroot.DisConnect Set oSvroot = Nothing End Sub Danielan

Hi all I have a question about installing MSDE2000 on SBS2000. A customer of ours has a Server with SBS2000 installed on it. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about SBS2000. Apparently though there is already a named instance of SQL called "Server\BKUPEXEC". I don't know if this is MSDE or SQL2000. I suspect MSDE due to a lack of EntMan etc. I have a running copy of SQL Server Manager which seems to indicate that this is the opnly copy of SQL/MSDE on the machine. I am trying to install a default instance of MSDE to service our application but (and I'm sorry as the information available here is through a 3rd party and I have not exoperienced this myself) whilst the MSDE install appears to run through correctly, there does not appear to be any additional
hi, i want to catch the error messages and take the control in delphi, i can do it like this try --- statements except on e:excepdion do statements end can i do it within sql serverIf you mean within Transact-SQL, you can in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition but SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000 did not support that type of error handling. SQL Server 2005 introduced the TRY-CATCH mechanism for handling errors, see: Navigation page that links to the pages describing error handling in Transact-SQL http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179465.aspx Using TRY-CATCH in Transact-SQL: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179296.aspx
: Login failed for user TESTPC\Guest. What should i do to make it work ? Connection string ? or doe i need to created some account on the other network PC ? I also tried using SQL autentification , but receive an error : Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. how do i create such trusted sql server connection (i run NET 2003 with the MSDE2000 on w2k machines ) Johanhi Johan, the first exception you are reported with depends on the lack of credential validation as you do not run on a domain but a workgroup, and 2 separated PCs are not "trusted" this way, as the sid of the remote account can not be validated by SQL Server against the local accounts you get the as MSDE installs by default disabling standard SQL Server authenticated connections
